Bohol Island Trip / Vacation 2016 (Part 2)

Everyday at 9:00 am we leave Henann Resort to go to different places in Bohol. Since most of us were “young” and active we preferred places where we can get some physical activity as opposed to just sightseeing.

So if you’re like us, here are my recommended places worth visiting

  1. Hinagdanan Cave — 30 minutes ride
  2. Mag Aso Falls — 1 hour ride
  3. Alona Beach Snorkeling — 20 minutes by boat
  4. SUP Tours – Stand-up paddleboarding  by Loboc River surrounded by mountains and palm trees. — 1 hour ride

Note: In my experience its better to plan the trip on your own then just schedule your ride with the Henann Resort people than ask them for recommended places.  Because they usually recommend the places that are only great for sightseeing like the Chocolate Hills or the Tarsier Conservation Area.  If you’re physically active like us you will get bored.

Our ride going to different places in Bohol.

Snorkeling at Alona Beach, Bohol, Philippines

Too bad we don’t have  a good waterproof camera.  If you’ve read the part 1, you’ll know my sister’s phone died during the trip.  The view of the corals and fishes underwater was breathtaking.  We even saw mommy turtle swimming with her baby!

Bringing a net was my idea and so worth it.  Even the kids enjoyed trying to catch the fishes.

Bug was scared to be in that cave.

Bohol Bee Farm Restaurant

We ate lunch here right after Hinagdanan Cave which is only a few minutes away.  Great place to eat, swim and sunbathe.  Everything here is organic.

Thanx for reading! Happy Summer!

Beach Mermaids Alona Beach, Bohol Philippines (Part 1 )

Happy Summer Guys! Its 40°C right here, what better time to go to the beach right? I’m not even sure if I’m being sarcastic.  I hate sunburn!

Henann Resort behind us.  Alona white sand beach in front.  How convenient!

My in-laws and twin sister planned the whole trip and I’m so grateful for it because it turned out to be the best beach experience I’ve had.  We stayed at Henann Resort which  sits at Panglao, Bohol and along the pristine shores of Alona Beach ! One of the best 5-star Resort in Bohol (with great Wi-Fi connection! ) and one of the best fine-white-sand beaches in the Philippines!

Our whole 4 days trip wasn’t just spent swimming in Alona beach, we also went snorkeling, swam at Hinagdanan Cave and swam and climbed the Mag Aso falls.  We were wet 12 hours a day with #saltyhair and #sandyfeet !  And I’ve accomplished two of my life goals– be a beach mermaid and swim in a waterfall.  Check out the video.

Breakfast and dinner buffet at Henann Resort –  The food was fantastic especially their tempura, roasted duck and BBQs.  Kids 4 years and below eat free of charge! Woopee!

Sunken bars! Too bad they don’t serve just juice.  Bug really wanted “juice”

Hinagdanan Cave – The water looks creepy but I swear it’s not haunted.   Bug got too scared to swim, she cried and screamed the whole time “MOMMY GET UP!”

Right above is the only decent photo I have in the Hinagdanan Cave because we used my sister’s iphone6 with waterproof case to take photo the whole time.  And you know what sucks? it’s NOT WATERPROOF!  So I’m saying this out loud DO NOT BUY APPLE’S LIFEPROOF WATERPROOF CASE BECAUSE ITS FAKE. And it cost Php5000 / US$108.

sister-in-law, Bug, and father-in-law at Mag Aso Falls

We were all shocked that Bug wanted to climb the waterfall because it’s so slippery and quite dangerous– well we carried her more than she climbed but at least she tried.  What’s more shocking is my father-in-law who’s probably the only senior citizen ever climbed the Mag Aso falls!  His secrets are 1. Fish diet and 2. Play basketball regularly.

My sisters comatose iphone6.  I’ll bring it for repair today.  Don’t DIE!

I don’t have any photos of the snorkeling trip because of the same reason I have in the cave.  But we did get lots of shells and starfish!– till my next post.

Thank you for reading 🙂

Active Fun for Kids

There are many reasons why children do not get enough exercise nowadays.  For my family the number one reason is technology — ipads, computers, tv etc.  The side effect that I noticed with Bug was hyperactivity and because of that I decided to bring her out for some active fun at least once a week.

Luckily I found a new fun place,  very different from her usual playground and definitely a lot more fun.  It’s all about bouncing and jumping!

New Year Vacation

Good morning and Happy New Year Everyone!

My first vlog.  Our trip to Tagaytay Highlands this New Year.   We had a wonderful time enjoying the super cold weather.  We stayed in our charming log cabin up in the mountain surrounded by thousands of fresh pine trees.  We went back home just in time to enjoy the fabulous fireworks in our village.

How did you end your 2014? Hope you had fun!

Happy New Year!

Easter Egg Hunting and Animal Food Arts

This year’s Holy Week hubby and I just wanted to stay at home and relax.  I’m tired, hubby just got back from a business trip and lil’ Celeste has a bad cough. If you know me, you’ll know that whenever I’m at home relaxing, my mind automatically thinks of something to do in the kitchen.  So here are some few nice things I had whipped up.

Pancake Snake for breakfast  — This is really easy to make, just put the pancake batter in a large syringe and swirl it onto the hot pan.  Pretty cool huh?

And here’s a super adorable one, I called them “Buttery Little Pups.”  These are actually dinner rolls but more buttery.  I will be posting the recipe and instructions next.

Besides spending time in the kitchen, last Thursday my sisters urged me to organize an Easter Egg hunt which I think is a great idea.  Except for the part where I will be the one organizing, but since they said “you won’t be paying for any stuff if you did all the ” hard work” (they know I HATE shopping ).”  I agreed.  So I went to a nearby mall and bought 105  pcs of plastic eggs and little toys and trinkets to fill them up for the Easter Egg hunt.  baking big ideas

I also bought 5 giant eggs  and 5 golden eggs for the 5 kids who will be attending and filled it up with bigger toys and candies which made them go even crazier.

It was so fun to look at them running around the garden looking for the eggs.  Talk about eggs, hubby brought home Frozen disney chocolate egg surprises.  They come with little neat figures of Frozen characters inside.

Well that’s it.  What did you do this Holy Week? 🙂

Sunday at La Mesa Ecopark

La mesa eco park

Spent our Sunday at La Mesa Ecopark.  I was really impressed with how very well maintained this park is considering the very cheap entrance fee — Php50 per person ( about $1.5 ).  There were many people when we went there yesterday but not at all crowded because the place is huge and full of shady trees so going there even on a very sunny day is still perfect.

The place is very peaceful, clean and the air very fresh. We did a lot of walking so it was a great fun exercise.

Horseback Riding ranges from Php100-Php200 ( $2.5 – $4 ).   Quite sad about this because the horse trail is too short, we were not allowed to go around the whole park with it but my daughter enjoyed it so we rode two types of horses. Screen shot 2014-03-23 at 10.43.38 AM

We had to pay another P60 ($1.5 ) to be able to go in the Butterfly Haven.  There were many butterflies that we can easily touch (catching them is not allowed ).  For me the haven would’ve been worth going and worth paying a little more if it was a lot more bigger with more butterflies.  I wonder who caught Mr. Butterfly?

There are many more things to do here like swimming, fishing and rock climbing, which we did not do but probably next time when we’re more prepared.  My only regret was we did not bring snacks since it’s a very beautiful place for picnic.

The foods were very simple but delicious, mostly grilled or barbequed and we just drank fresh coconut juice.

The place is worth visiting if you long for fresh air and healthy outdoor activities.  Only 15 minutes away from where I live so I would definitely go back here for a relaxing weekend.

Holy Week 2013

I’m not a devoted Christian as I would like to be, but at the least I try to do something religious during the Holy Week instead of just planning a “non-religious vacation” like I use to.  This is my Holy Week 2013 in pictures.

Palm Sunday : For the longest time I thought these palms leaves are used to ward of evil spirits or hungry ghosts…ignorant me.   I know now that these palm leaves are actually bought to commemorate the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem.  We brought this to church on Palm Sunday to be blessed by the priest, afterwards hung them anywhere inside or outside our home.

Palm leaves, marikina

We bought palm leaves last Saturday to prepare for the beginning of Holy Week on Sunday — Palm Sunday

Good Friday :  Husband and I attended the ecumenical Stations of the Cross at Saint Pio Chapel in Libis.   This chapel has built several crosses of different sizes for you to carry while walking the 14 stations set up in the empty driveway at the church.  This created the feeling and ambiance that quite resembles the time when Christ was crucified.  I’ve seen children as young as about 8 years old took part in this, and some people even tried walking barefoot too .  ( I only took two pictures because I didn’t want to disturb the people praying inside. )

Cross of different sizes are stacked neatly outside the Church’s front door. Ministers of the church distribute the crosses to  devotees who wanted to walk the 14 stations of the cross.

Each of us were give a piece of paper containing prayers and short stories about each station.

Black Saturday :   I spent time at home preparing food for Easter Sunday as my family will be coming over. I made my daughter’s favorite sweet korean chicken and my newly invented taro-coconut pudding.  Yeah the pudding doesn’t look very nice but they are actually very creamy and deliciously baked in the coconut shell. ( I can’t think of any garnish or decoration to make it look more appealing than this one in the right photo.)

Korean style baked chicken and taro-coconut pudding for dessert. YUM!

Easter Sunday : Spent time resting at home with my family, eating, eating, and eating.

Adults ate while kids swam all sunny afternoon.

How was your Holy Week?
