Lets Fly! | Our Helicopter Tour to Crocodile Farm, Taal Volcano etc…

My sister and I have been planning to visit the crocodile farm in Batangas (Luzon part of the Philippines ) since last month but it was delayed due to the typhoon and heavy rain.  Last Saturday the weather was just perfect and since we’re both available, we pushed through with our plan.  We toured around Batangas in the most exciting form of transport available, a helicopter!

Our kids got an adrenaline rush while riding the helicopter since it’s their first time and it’s different from riding a plane.  180 degree view, we can feel the wind outside, love the feeling of hovering into the atmosphere, and best of all the kids can shout and go crazy since it was a private ride — speaking of crazy, Bug’s cousin threw up all over his seat during the ride, chocked on the sandwich due to excitement, got his headphone wet, and got half of my jeans wet! Good thing we were on our way home at that time.

We visited the crocodile farm and we’re able to carry baby crocodiles! Wow!  Bug didn’t want to carry the hatchlings thanks to my sister who kept on repeating “crocodiles eat humans.”

We also went to a well known poultry farm and collected hundreds of eggs! and finally toured around the second most active volcano in my country, the Taal Volcano.  Our whole trip lasted for 5 hours but it felt like a whole day!  I took a video of our whole trip so you have got to check it out!  I really wanted to visit the Mount Pinatubo, the active volcano whose last eruption in 1991 was still so vivid in my mind.  I wanted to finally be able to look into the eye of that monster but too bad our captain pilot did not get clearance for that because it was too windy to go there that day.  Next time for sure!

Looking forward to another good day of flying!

Thanx for reading! 🙂

Celestine’s Baking Party! Little Chef Party

I planned this party two months ahead since I really wanted to DIY everything (decorations, activities and food).  Here are some things you can do to have a simple little chef party for your little one.

little chef baking party

To set the mood for the entire event we need decorations.  This was really easy to pull off because all you really need were lots of colorful papers, a few balloons on the ceiling and the cupcakes on the wall was a fun weekend project for Celeste.

baking party

Nothing will make some plain cupcakes look elegant and delicious than a cake stand.  Each kid will get to decorate their very own cupcakes on a cake stand.  How wonderful is that!

The materials used for the stands are round styrofoams ( 6 inch diameter and 2 inch high), yellow and green art paper or cartolina and 8 inch gold cake board.

DIY play doh recipe

DIY Play Doughs / Play Doh — I used 9 Cups of flour since I was expecting around 9 to 10 kids.  1 Cup of of flour per color which yield around 8 ounces of play dough.  Made these 3 weeks ahead. Don’t forget to provide cookie cutters and rolling pins!

little chef birthday party

I bought the felt mustaches at the bookstore / scrapbook area.

DIY Paper Chef Hat — So easy you can do this in less than 10 minutes!  Don’t forget the felt mustaches!

DIY Butter cupcakes — Here’s my little secret, I used the recipe of Martha stewart many times without fail.  I divided the batter into three equal parts then added a bit of food coloring, spoon them in the muffin cups then bake it for about 20minutes.  Presto! Pretty colorful cupcakes!

DIY Perfect Chocolate Cupcakes — Here’s my go to chocolate cupcake recipe. I made a total of 48 cupcakes.  4 cupcakes per child plus extra for those kid at heart 🙂

DIY Yummy Buttercream Frosting Recipe

Kids are crazy for frosting so you need lots of it and of course candies, cookies and sprinkles to decorate.

buttercream frosting recipe 1 Cup Salted Butter
4 Cups Powdered Sugar, sifted
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
about 4 Tablespoon of milk
Food coloring (optional)

Beat butter with a mixer on medium speed until smooth. Add 3 cups of powdered sugar and turn your mixer on low to incorporate sugar with the butter. Increase the speed to medium and add vanilla extract.  Add in water to make it smooth.  Add in the remaining sugar. Mix on high speed until light and smooth. Add in food coloring.

The best part is of course the blowing of the CAKE!

Easter Sunday / Easter Egg Hunting Event

Although last week was a holiday/ Holy Week, I’ve been very busy decorating cakes but I wouldn’t miss having an easterrific Sunday with my family.  Here’s a picture summery of what we did.  artistic milestones

It’s always best to exercise before breakfast

I don’t have any childhood memories of Easter activities maybe that’s why I am such a kid during Easter.

Here’s my easter bunny all dressed up and ready to hunt for some golden eggs.  Doesn’t she look Easterriffic?!

More eggs = Bigger Prize

Golden Eggs = Biggest Prize

More than a hundred children swarming for thousands of eggs but only few will find the golden eggs.  I think most of them don’t even care about the golden eggs as long as they get more eggs.

Since no parents and helpers are allowed inside the field, watching the younger kids was the funniest thing.  Some don’t even know what to do, while some are happy with just one egg.  Some wanted to eat the eggs, while some had no desire to do anything but open each eggs.  My daughter was panicking when she saw all the eggs that she forgot about the golden eggs that I told her to find.   Of the 25 eggs she got only 1 is a golden egg.  Not bad!

Aside from egg hunting we watched live entertainment of Hi-5 and magic show which was really cool and unexpected.  See part of the Hi-5 show on the video below.

There were also face painting and photo booth which we didn’t get to do since the line was too long.  But everything else was eggcellent!

We had such an Easterrific Sunday!  How was your Easter Weekend?

New Year Vacation

Good morning and Happy New Year Everyone!

My first vlog.  Our trip to Tagaytay Highlands this New Year.   We had a wonderful time enjoying the super cold weather.  We stayed in our charming log cabin up in the mountain surrounded by thousands of fresh pine trees.  We went back home just in time to enjoy the fabulous fireworks in our village.

How did you end your 2014? Hope you had fun!

Happy New Year!

Repeat the past: Great Gatsby Party

I attended a Great Gatsby event yesterday and got to party like a 1920s millionaire, thanks to my grandma in law who just turned 86 and my cousin who just turned 20.

My 86 year old grandma in law can really dance is beyond AH-MAZING !!!

You know I don’t normally get stressed out worried while making a cake but these cakes have given me a nightmare.

It all started in a fabric store where I was purchasing some feathers for the Gatsby cakes I was planning. I met a very funny gay guy who’s very helpful in giving me tips on how to dress up my cakes and myself. She said and I quote “missy you need to wear something vintage and glamorous, you’re bringing gold cakes for gods sake. Do you want to look like from “Back to the Future” movie”

artistic milestones / Baking Big Ideas

She was not the only one who told me to dress the occasion, my two sisters urged me as well. And in my book, when you get the same warning from at least 3 person that means you gotta do something.  So when I got home I googled looking for fashion inspiration. I got worried because the party is a week from then and I do not have the time to shop.

That night I had a nightmare exactly about what that Gay said. At the party I was from the “Back to the future”. It was in short an embarrassing nightmare, one that I shan’t risk making in real life.

So the following day instead of shopping I went to visit my fashionista sister and as always she has a solution to my fashion problem.

Here I was all clean and pampered, with pearly clip on my short curls, some accessories, a sophisticated beaded art deco dress and a 3 inch heels, ready to step back in time and dance the night away! (photo above ) Thanx to my sister M.

great gatsby party

The roaring 20s is a very dramatic era. And it was especially true for the ladies because ladies fashion back then were sophisticated, flirty, glamorous and with a sense of rebelliousness. Men wear Ralph Lauren inspired neutral colored suits, but the ladies fashion was a different story. I think that the best way to describe it is “Extreme.” They wear an angry mix of laces, feathers, pearls, diamonds and fringes all at the same time yet surprisingly complementing one another. Aside from that, they wear thick make up, dangling earrings, sparkly hair accessories and short hair was apparently very stylish. And if you personally know me you can just imagine how much stressful it is for me trying to get The Look but I have to admit I love it. I mean what girl wouldn’t want to be draped in jewelries? Hello!?

Baking Big IdeasTook me longer than usual to plan this cake. I like to incorporate most of the elements I saw in the Great Gatsby movie with a color scheme of black, white and gold. To make the cake roar like the 20s era, I added plenty of feathers, real ones and painted ones, some diamonds, fish net, pearls, and bold geometric patterns.

Baking Big Ideas

Now to the fun part. No Gatsby party will be complete without fresh and live entertainment from the celebrant and the audience!

great gatsby dance

This family loves to dance so its no wonder why they chose to recreate the 1920s party.  That year was also known as the Jazz era, when new and upbeat jazz music coupled with exuberant and energetic dance moves became very popular.   You know perhaps the whole purpose of the fringy flapper dresses were to show of those legs!  Click on the video at the top page to see plus more photos from the roaring 20s.

After one party in the house of Gatsby I can truly say that 1920s is truly an exciting era that will never be forgotten. But I was exhausted. Ready to ride our little time machine and travel back to year 2014.

Gatsby Party

Till then see you later old sport! and P.S. if you’re planning a Great Gatsby Party don’t forget to bling it on with a Gold Cake!

2nd Birthday Party — Ladybug Theme

My baby recently turned 2 and a Ladybug Party seemed the perfect theme for the occasion since her nickname is “Bug” and what else is the cutest bug of all but a ladybug right?

I spent my whole Saturday making this cake, not the best I’ve ever made but it’s the best rushed-cake I’ve ever made.

Ladybug Cake

We had it at home, a simple last minute planned party, didn’t even had the time to get a nice buntings, we used an old bunting and some post its lol 🙂 (sorry for my blurry pic )IMG_3236 Bought some ladybug chocolates that I stuck all over our wall using scotch tape.

IMG_2957 Here are the cupcakes, only 6 of these existed since I don’t have plenty of fondant left after making the cake.

Fresh Banana Cake

IMG_3001 Charles Lu

I made banana cake because I know my daughter will be eating lots of it, well I believe it’s healthier than any other flavor but that’s just me.  This cake was pretty much the only dessert that day, the rest were catered food so naturally her only focus was the cake.
