M-Berry Tea Cake

Some call them mulberries

Some call them marionberries.

? I’m confused honestly ? What do you think ?

so I’ll just call them M-berries for now.

M-berries are in season again

If you know me, I wouldn’t miss this opportunity of making something out of them.

Newly picked, tangy sweet, hunger-solver, who could resist?

This recipe is super easy super fast you’ll have a warm berrylicious breakfast in no time.

But first, please check out this 1 minute video I took a couple of days ago about how addictive M-berries can be 🙂

Here are the Ingredients :

2 cups all purpose flour
6 Tbsp white sugar
1 Tbsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
6 Tbsp cold unsalted butter, cut into pcs
1.5 Cups fresh Mberries, rinsed
1 tsp grated lemon zest
1/3 C heavy cream
2 large eggs.

Step 1 : Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Artistic Milestones

Step 2 : In a large bowl, mix in flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.  Add in butter and mix with hands until most of it resembles pea-sized grains.  Stir in the berries and zest using a large spoon.  Be careful not to squish those juicy berries.

Step 3: In a separate bowl, whisk in the cream and egg.  Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour the cream-egg mixture.  Stir lightly with a spoon just until the batter comes together.

Artistic Milestones

Step 4 : Pour dough into a 6 inch silicone pan ( you need to line the pan with wax paper or butter it if not using a silicone pan ).  Sprinkle with sugar on top. Bake until golden brown, 20-30 minutes.

Artistic Milestones These are so so delicious eaten with Cream Cheese!

  2. Omg! Your little girl is so cute! Ang gana kumain! Fun!

Oh I remember na I’ve tried that berries when I was a little kid! Our neighbor has that kind of tree pero much bigger, inaakyat namin eh though mababa lang sya. I remember the taste and the looks of the berries!

    • Thanx Sha! I had to drive 5 minutes to my sister’s house just so she could get the berries herself, she’s an addict 🙂 You should try making cakes, pancakes, etc out of them while in season for they are very sweet.
